Family and Friends

You’re here because you feel like something’s not quite right with your teenage or young adult family member or friend. You may be wondering if it’s just a phase or if they need some help. At mindcheck.ca you can learn more about some common mental health challenges teens and young adults experience, determine if a problem potentially exists and get connected to the support and help you need.

Start by learning more. Each section will help you to gain a better understanding of what to look for and what may be happening when depression, anxiety, stress, substance use (alcohol and drugs) or psychosis is affecting someone.

Our simple screening quizzes will help determine if a problem exists and if it does, it will connect your teenager or young adult family member or friend with the right support. For the most accurate results, the individual having the experience should complete the quiz as some questions relate to personal thoughts and feelings.

If you complete this quiz on behalf of someone else you will likely get results that are not fully accurate, so encourage the person to take the quiz themselves by:

  • Inviting them to the computer to take the quiz (get it set-up for them and make sure to give them privacy).
  • Sharing the mindcheck.ca website with them and encouraging them to visit it themselves.
  • Printing off and sharing the factsheet(s) that you believe best reflects what could be going on for them. Let them know you’re worried about them.
  • Offering your support in completing the quiz or taking the next step in seeking help.

Within each topic area, you'll find a links to pages offering self-help resources and how to connect with community services if more help is required.
